What Our Customers Say
I first met Helena Butler in March 2017 when I attended her class, neurogenic yoga for stress relief, hoping that it would help a chronic hip issue that I had for over 2 years. I am a very physical person and enjoy running, biking, swimming, hiking, and most other outdoor activities. Right from the start I knew I had found something that was going to work for me. After seeing the benefits of neurogenic yoga, I signed up for yoga therapy with Helena and really have not looked back. Helena is simply awesome. I felt she thoroughly prepared for our therapy sessions and took a genuine interest in helping me get back to running which is a real passion of mine. Helena takes a very holistic approach which helped me understand the mind body connection and how that contributed to my hip pain. She always followed up our sessions with a detailed summary which included postures, exercises and advice for me to consider. I now feel I have many tools in my toolbox that I can access at any time. Not only is my hip feeling a lot better, but I am overall more flexible, stronger and getting back to running on a regular basis. Helena really listens, is open-minded, kind and compassionate. She has helped me tremendously and for that I am very grateful. I would highly recommend Helena and Yoga Therapy NL.”
I came to St. John’s after a traumatic event burdened by grief and physical injury. As I started to look for healing I repeatedly heard the name Helena. Guided by these wise souls I found my way to Helena Butler. Her presence is healing in itself and I benefitted from her yoga classes. Helena is a seasoned teacher of Neurogenic Yoga and I was fortunate to participate in her classes. This remarkable practice is designed to address stress and trauma. I was amazed to find such an effective and empowering method of healing stress and trauma. I continue to benefit from the techniques Helena taught. Having received so much benefit from her presence, her yoga classes and her neurogenic yoga classes, I began private yoga therapy. These sessions became a highlight of my week and in a just a few sessions I gained great benefit. Helena’s approach was perfectly individualized for my particular situation and deeply grounded in yogic tradition. Her broad foundation and easy manner enabled me to benefit from this powerful healing modality which would otherwise have been inaccessible and mysterious.”
I have had the pleasure of participating in some Yoga Therapy sessions with Helena, as well as taking countless classes and workshops with her over the past two and a half years. It has been a true gift to practice, study and heal under her loving and insightful guidance. Not only is she a true guide, mentor and student, who is open to learning form her students, she is one of the most humble, genuine, authentic people that I have ever met. She is an accomplished teacher who lives her “yoga” both on and off of the mat. Helena has invested much to her ongoing studies and teaching and, most graciously, offers all of it up to her students, co-workers and even strangers, with an open heart.
After a car accident rendered me into a downward spiral of daily constant pain, limited ability to function along with plenty of physio/massage appt’s I needed more help! I did not know where to turn when my friend told me about Helena’s one on one recovery yoga practice. I was willing to give it a try and it was so worth it!! Not only did she tune into what my specific needs were, she did it in a caring compassionate holistic way that met my physical strengthening/stretching and emotional/spiritual needs to learn how to truly deeply relax. The wisdom I have learned from her is a part of my daily living today and I am back to being a productive person who is aware of what my body and mind needs to remain healthy to enjoy my life to the fullest.”
I was looking for something that would help with a long term injury and decided to try Yoga Therapy. I did not know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised to find that the focus of Yoga Therapy is an individualized approach to healing both the body and mind. With Helena’s guidance I was better able to understand and uncover the deep relationship between body and mind, which was the key to getting on the right track to overall wellness. I would highly recommend Yoga Therapy with Helena. She is one of the most thoughtful, caring and knowledgeable people I know.”
Yoga Therapy has given me a new lease on life. In the late 80’s had a back injury due to work, I pulled my SI Joint muscles so bad my spine was curved like a C. I done physio, exercise, medication, laser treatments etc off and on for many many years. I have had good episodes of pain free and then back to not so pain free and believed this was my new normal. Then I read about Yoga Therapy and talked with Helena re my condition and I decided it was worth a try. I done the course sessions, the homework and daily therapy at home and now continue my exercises and it has changed my life. I can now do my yoga pain free after a class and no pain after rising in the morning. Yoga Therapy has changed my life and highly recommend the program, you won’t regret it!”
At its best, conventional western medicine regularly leads to miraculous improvements in health.Current combinations of surgery, chemotherapy, biologic therapy and radiation for patients with early stage breast cancer, lead to a high rate of cure. These therapies while very effective are also very harsh and cause much misery. This has certainly been my experience since starting my breast cancer therapy last June. Drawing on ancient healing wisdom combined with the most up to date iteration of these therapies , Helena has since June found creative and effective approaches to address each of my challenges as they arose. Her skillful and compassionate approach has enormously enhanced my wellbeing during a challenging period and I expect with her help to recover at an encouraging pace. I highly recommend Helena’s approach as a very helpful adjunct to conventional cancer therapy to manage side-effects and enhance wellbeing and healing.”
Working with Helena was very helpful for me in addressing my anxiety, for which I have previously needed to take medication. Through different yoga therapy teniques, such as neurogenic yoga, breath and meditation work, chakra balancing, and yoga-based physio for persistent physical conditions (weak knees and ankles), I have come to enjoy greater mental and physical health. I can control my anxiety through breath and meditation techniques, have lost and am continuing to lose weight as my physical body reaches its natural healthy state, and am able to enjoy a wide range of physical activities. I would recommend Helena to anyone looking to find better balance in their physical, mental, and spiritual selves. Helena is a warm, welcoming, and wise woman, who brings a plethora of experience and education to her work. She truly cares about creating a therapy program tailored to you and your needs, and gives abundantly of herself and her time to those who seek her out.”

Neurogenic Yoga is a revolutionary new technique in trauma healing and stress reduction.
Neurogenic Yoga is an integrative method that combines yoga asana and pranayama with Neurogenic tremors. Neurogenic tremors in humans, also known as Self Induced Therapeutic Tremors, much the same as the instinctual tremors in animals, are the nervous systems way of discharging long-held tension and trauma or unconscious muscle contraction in order to restore the body to wholeness.
During a typical Neurogenic Yoga practice a combination of gentle yoga postures and breath techniques are utilized to evoke a trembling response from the deep core muscles. Involuntary shaking then reverberates throughout the entire body traveling along the spine releasing deep chronic tension from the sacrum to the cranium. All levels!
Myofascial release using specialized stretching techniques, tennis balls and a yoga block therapeutically. MFR treats skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles and fascia, improving blood, oxygen, and lymphatic circulation, and stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles.
